​Wie ist das diskursfähige Subjekt im Sinne Habermas zu denken? Unter welchen Bedingungen und Modalitäten entwickelt das Subjekt seine Diskursfähigkeit? Erika Edelmayer arbeitet die Denkfigur des diskursfähigen Subjekts aus der Grundlegung der soziologischen Theorie als „Theorie des kommunikativen Handelns“ heraus. Sie untersucht, was Diskursfähigkeit im Rahmen einer deliberativ verstandenen Demokratie bedeutet und zeigt die Konsequenzen auf, die sich daraus für die Pädagogik ergeben.

ZusammenfassungDer Beitrag befasst sich am Beispiel von Christian August Vulpius’ Roman Rinaldo Rinaldini mit frühen Formen moderner Fanfiction. Die Fortsetzungen des Romans von fremder Hand arbeiten in unterschiedlicher Weise daran, jene Probleme, die im Original ungelöst bleiben, zu beheben und der kontingenten Ereignisfolge ein Telos zu verleihen. Das Beispiel zeigt, dass Fanfiction die unrealisierten Möglichkeiten literarischer Werke nutzt, indem sie durch eigenwillige Lektüren die Zwangsläufigkeit von Handlungsverläufen hinterfragt und alternative Welterklärungsmodelle entwirft. Zugleich lässt sich an Vulpius’ Roman beobachten, inwiefern Vorlage (...) und Fanfiction hier in einem Wechselverhältnis stehen. Die Untersuchung von Fanfiction eröffnet damit auch Perspektiven für eine netzwerkförmige Literaturgeschichtsschreibung.Using Christian August Vulpius’ novel Rinaldo Rinaldini as an example, this article deals with early forms of modern fanfiction. The unauthorized sequels to the novel explore different ways to remedy problems that remain unsolved in the original version and to find a telos for the contingent sequence of events. The example shows that fanfiction makes use of the unrealized possibilities of literary works by questioning the inevitability of plot developments through idiosyncratic readings and designing alternative models for explaining the world. At the same time, Vulpius’ novel demonstrates the extent to which the original novel and the works of fanfiction are interrelated. The study of fanfiction thus also opens up perspectives for a network-based historiography of literature. (shrink)

Der Beitrag stellt das Werk von Sára und César Botella zur psychischen Arbeit der »Figurabilität« vor. Der Begriff der Figurabilität wird mit dem Freud’schen Begriff der »Darstellbarkeit« verglichen und der Traumarbeit als zentraler psychischer Arbeit der ersten Topik zugeordnet. Die Figurabilität wird als psychische Arbeit der zweiten Topik gesehen; sie habe das Ziel, Unvorstellbares via halluzinativer Momente darzustellen. Die Figurabilitätsarbeit sei die Grundlage dafür, dass Realitätssinn und Existenzgefühl aus der omnipotenten Negation des Objekts in der Wahrnehmung und dessen Erschaffung in (...) der Vorstellung und seines Wiederfindens in der Wahrnehmung allererst entstehen. Misslingt diese Arbeit, könne der Analytiker mit Hilfe seiner regredienten Haltung einspringen; er arbeitet dann nicht mehr als Übertragungsobjekt, sondern werde durch seine Möglichkeit, sein Denken regredient in halluzinative Wahrnehmung zu verwandeln, zum animistischen Double des Patienten. An einer Szene aus Dantes »Göttlicher Komödie« und einer Passage aus einer Mutter-Kind-Therapie wird versucht, eine mögliche Anwendung des Konzepts der Figurabilität darzustellen. (shrink)

Die Studie macht das Verhältnis zwischen den Darstellungen des Gottes in der Bibel und jenen im Film zum Fokus. Auf welche Art und Weise wurde die Transzendenz präsentiert und wie die Christologie in der Filmproduktion erscheint, zu Zeiten, die sich als nachlässig gegenüber dem Religiösen sowie Transzendentalen zeigen, beziehungsweise beides auf eine Sache des menschlichen Intellekts zu reduzieren gedenken? Wie verschieden ist Christus in den Filmen Pasolinis, Zeffirellis und Gibsons? Kann Jesus Christus, der Heiland, durch einen populären Aktionsfilmhelden ersetzt werden? (...) Die Arbeit setzt sich mit der Religion aus einem anderen Blickwinkel auseinander, nämlich versuche ich festzustellen, ob die Religion tatsächlich aus dem öffentlichen Leben verschwunden ist wie mitunter angenommen. In welcher Manier wurden die Ideen von Gott von bestimmten Politikern und Führern gebraucht bzw. missbraucht, wie zum Beispiel Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein und George W. Bush? Was gilt es zu tun, wenn uns die Medien ermöglichen, wahrzunehmen, wie die Religion politisiert und die Politik religionisiert wird? (shrink)

Nicht nur die Grenzen von Kunst und Leben sind in Bewegung, auch diejenigen zwischen den Einzelkünsten selbst verflüchtigen sich, sodass die kunstwissenschaftlichen Einzeldisziplinen den Arbeiten kaum mehr gerecht werden. Die Interart Studies spüren an Beispielen aus Film, Theater, bildender Kunst, Musik, in Ästhetik und Medientheorie Phänomene der Überschreitung auf, um zu erproben, wie diese mit neuen Mitteln methodisch und theoretisch adäquat zu fassen sind.

The starting point of this essay is the logical and political objection that Plato made against poetry, as well as the lack of distinction that he specified as the origin of its dangerousness, and which modernity converted into the condition of possibility of certain egalitarian forms of sensible experience and material life. I will then look at the function that the historical rearticulation of Platonic idealism has fulfilled from Romanticism to the present day in the age-old dispute between philosophy and (...) poetry, paying particular attention to the different readings of Hölderlin and Mallarmé carried out by Benjamin, Lacoue-Labarthe, and Agamben as symbols of the disfiguration of poetry. I will analyze the tension between sense and sound as the founder of an irreducible territory that opens a potentiality indicative of its political force. Lastly, I will turn to Michel Foucault’s The Government of Self and Others to analyze the function of messianism and parrhesia in the contemporary characterization of political poetry and its conflicts with the truth-telling of philosophy. This Article outlines a vision of responsible innovation and outlines a public policy and implementation strategy for it.

Public opinion can affect the adoption of genome editing technologies. In food production, genome editing can be applied to a wide range of applications, in different species and with different purposes. This study analyzed how the public responds to five different applications of genome editing, varying the species involved and the proposed purpose of the modification. Three of the applications described the introduction of disease resistance within different species, and two targeted product quality and quantity in cattle. Online surveys in (...) Canada, the US, Austria, Germany and Italy were carried out with a total sample size of 3698 participants. Using a between-subject design, participants were confronted with one of the five applications and asked to decide whether they considered it right or wrong. Perceived risks, benefits, and the perception of the technology as tampering with nature were surveyed and were complemented with socio-demographics and a measure of the participants’ moral foundations. In all countries, participants evaluated the application of disease resistance in humans as most right to do, followed by disease resistance in plants, and then in animals, and considered changes in product quality and quantity in cattle as least right to do. However, US and Italian participants were generally more positive toward all scenarios, and German and Austrian participants more negative. Cluster analyses identified four groups of participants: ‘strong supporters’ who saw only benefits and little risks, ‘slight supporters’ who perceived risks and valued benefits, ‘neutrals’ who showed no pronounced opinion, and ‘opponents’ who perceived higher risks and lower benefits. This research contributes to understanding public response to applications of genome editing, revealing differences that can help guide decisions related to adoption of these technologies. (shrink)

Controlled donation after circulatory determination of death (cDCDD) is an important strategy for increasing the pool of eligible organ donors.

A sequent calculus is given in which the management of weakening and contraction is organized as in natural deduction. The latter has no explicit weakening or contraction, but vacuous and multiple discharges in rules that discharge assumptions. A comparison to natural deduction is given through translation of derivations between the two systems. It is proved that if a cut formula is never principal in a derivation leading to the right premiss of cut, it is a subformula of the conclusion. Therefore (...) it is sufficient to eliminate those cuts that correspond to detour and permutation conversions in natural deduction. (shrink)

Philosophers often aim to demonstrate that the things we ordinarily think and say can be reconciled with our considered beliefs about the world. To this end, many philosophers try to paraphrase ordinary language claims by finding equivalent sentences that are less misleading. For instance, though we know that there is no British family that is the average one, we want to say that the average British family has 1.8 children, and we might do that by paraphrasing this claim as: there (...) are nearly twice as many British children as British families. This article aims to introduce and distinguish different paraphrase strategies, sketch their role in metaphysical debates and highlight some crucial questions that proponents of such strategies face. Psychopathy refers to a range of complex behaviors and personality traits, including callousness and antisocial behavior, typically studied in criminal populations. Recent studies have used self-reports to examine psychopathic traits among noncriminal samples. The goal of the current study was to examine the underlying factor structure of the Self-Report of Psychopathy Scale–Short Form (SRP-SF) across complementary samples and examine the impact of gender on factor structure. We examined the structure of the SRP-SF among 2,554 young adults from three undergraduate samples (...) and a high-risk young adult sample. Using confirmatory factor analysis, a four-correlated factor model and a four-bifactor model showed good fit to the data. Evidence of weak invariance was found for both models across gender. These findings highlight that the SRP-SF is a useful measure of low-level psychopathic traits in noncriminal samples, although the underlying factor structure may not fully translate across men and women. Over the last decade many emerging economies, and in particular Brazil, have established themselves as major players in global food animal production. Within these countries much of the increase in food animal production has been achieved by the adoption of intensive housing systems similar to those found in most industrialized countries. However, it is now well established that many of these systems are associated with numerous welfare problems, particularly with respect to restriction of movement. Previous work has shown that people (...) living in industrialized’ countries broadly support farm animal welfare reform, and that similar criticisms may be voiced from citizens living in developing countries as they become more aware of confinement housing and potentially contentious husbandry practices. Given the developments that have taken place in other countries, there are lessons that could be learned and applied by emerging economies that would undoubtedly ease or prevent the challenges observed in other countries. Thus, we briefly describe the vehicles used by different countries when addressing animal welfare that may provide insights into identifying possible challenges and potential solutions for Brazil and other emerging economies. Where available we review the associated science and identify gaps where more research is needed. We conclude by providing a possible roadmap on how farm animal welfare reform may be addressed in emerging countries. Solutions will need to be tailored, culturally relevant, and science must play a key role in supporting animal welfare reform in the emerging countries. (shrink)

BackgroundInformation and communication technology solutions have the potential to support active and healthy aging and improve monitoring and treatment outcomes. To make such solutions acceptable, all stakeholders must be involved in the requirements elicitation process. Due to the COVID-19 situation, alternative approaches to commonly used face-to-face methods must often be used. One aim of the current article is to share a unique experience from the Pharaon project where due to the COVID-19 outbreak alternative elicitation methods were used. In addition, an (...) overview of common functional, quality, and emotional goals identified by six pilot sites is presented to complement the knowledge about the needs of older adults.MethodsOriginally planned face-to-face co-creation seminars were impossible to carry out, and all pilot sites chose alternative requirements elicitation methods that were most suitable in their situation. The elicited requirements were presented in the form of goal models. In one summary goal model, we provide an overview of common functional, quality, and emotional goals.ResultsDifferent elicitation methods were combined based on the digital literacy of the target group and their access to digital tools. Methods applied without digital technologies were phone interviews, reviews of literature and previous projects, while by means of digital technologies online interviews, online questionnaires, and virtual co-creation seminars were conducted. The combination of the methods allowed to involve all planned stakeholders. Virtual and semi-virtual co-creation seminars created collaborative environment comparable to face-to-face situations, while online participation helped to save the time of the participants. The most prevalent functional goals elicited were “Monitor health,” “Receive advice,” “Receive information.” “Easy to use/comfortable,” “personalized/tailored,” “automatic/smart” were identified as most prevalent quality goals. Most frequently occurring emotional goals were “involved,” “empowered,” and “informed.”ConclusionThere are alternative methods to face-to-face co-creation seminars, which effectively involve older adults and other stakeholders in the requirements elicitation process. Despite the used elicitation method, the requirements can be easily transformed into goal models to present the results in a uniform way. The common requirements across different pilots provided a strong foundation for representing detailed requirements and input for further software development processes. (shrink)
